Description
  • The magnificent Zambezi River runs through the eastern and central parts of Africa, stretching approximately 2,574 kilometres in length. Its source is located in Zambia, where it flows out of the Kaleni Hills near Mwinilunga. From there, it passes through four countries - Zambia, Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe - on its way to the Indian Ocean. Along its course are a number of notable landmarks such as Victoria Falls , Lake Kariba and the Cahora Bassa lake. As well as the considerable economic value it gives as a water and hydro power resource, the Zambezi is also a huge tourist attraction, with numerous financial and social benefits for local communities. Community members are beginning to establish and expand small-scale businesses to cater to the needs of tourists, providing accommodation and restaurants and offering unique cultural experiences and guided tours.
