MICC was commissioned by the Zambian government in 1970 and constructed by Yugoslav engineers in just 107 days. The centre was officially opened by Zambia’s first President, Kenneth Kaunda, in readiness for the third Summit Conference of Non-Aligned Nations. Since then, MICC has hosted numerous international diplomatic conferences, including the Multi-Party Namibian Independence Talks and the US-Africa talks led by Henry Kissinger.
